‏Amman – Today, Major General Allam Al-Saqqa, the Chief of the Palestinian Police, met with Mr. Agith Singhai, Head of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in the occupied Palestinian territories, at the United Nations headquarters in Amman, Jordan. The meeting was attended by a delegation that included Brigadier General Alaa Al-Shalabi, the Inspector General of Police, and Brigadier General Laith Zidan, Head of the Office of the Chief of Police.

‏During the meeting, Major General Al-Saqa conveyed the greetings of His Excellency President Mahmoud Abbas, the President of the State of Palestine and the Supreme Commander of the Security Forces, emphasizing the Palestinian leadership’s commitment to enhancing cooperation with international institutions to ensure the respect of human rights and the protection of freedoms.

Major General Al-Saqqa emphasized that the Palestinian Police operates in accordance with the laws and international agreements signed by the State of Palestine, committed to applying the highest standards of transparency and respect for human rights. He also highlighted the importance of strengthening partnerships with human rights organizations to ensure justice and the rule of law.

‏The meeting covered several key issues, including the rights of detainees in rehabilitation and detention centers and the guarantees for suspects during the investigation phase. Major General Al-Saqqa reaffirmed the Palestinian Police’s commitment to implementing the laws and regulations that ensure the dignity of individuals and promote a culture of human rights within the security system.

‏He also reviewed the control procedures followed by the Palestinian Police to ensure that no human rights violations occur within detention centers, pointing to continuous inspection mechanisms and periodic monitoring to ensure that all facilities comply with legal and humanitarian standards
‏In addition to the presence of independent mechanisms to address complaints and ensure transparency and accountability.

‏For his part, Mr. Singhai praised the efforts made by the Palestinian Police in this regard, expressing the readiness of the High Commissioner’s Office to support any steps that enhance the respect for rights and freedoms in accordance with international standards, and emphasizing the importance of mutual cooperation in this framework.
