Jericho – Monday, the police launched the “Women Against Drugs” initiative in partnership with the Popular Committee in Ain Al-sultan Refugee Camp and the Women’s Center in the camp.
According to the police, Brigadier General Mo’ayyad Abbas, the Police Director of Jericho Governorate, announced the initiative during an event held at the Women’s Center. The event was attended by Brigadier General Ashraf Mutlaq, Director of the Community Police Department; Colonel Louay Erziqat, Police Spokesperson; Youssef Manasra, Head of the Popular Committee; Hania Al-osta, Head of the Women’s Center; and a group of community activists.
Brigadier General Abbas and other attendees highlighted the significance of the initiative, describing it as a pioneering project that underscores women’s responsibility in protecting their families and communities. They emphasized the significant role of women in addressing societal challenges.
Colonel Eyad Dragameh, Director of the Public Relations and Media Department in Jericho’s Police, outlined the goals of the initiative, which include establishing a women-led council to collaborate with the police in combating drug abuse through targeted activities and programs.
Additionally, Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Abu Al-Zahir, Head of Anti-Narcotics department in Jericho’s Police, and Captain Mohammad Abu Al-Heija, from the Awareness and Guidance section, conducted a lecture on the dangers of drug abuse. The session included a visual presentation highlighting its negative effects. The lecture focused on the role of women participating in the initiative, aiming to establish a women's council following the completion of a month-long awareness phase.
The initiative seeks to empower women to play a fundamental role in combating drug abuse and contributing to the creation of a safer and more stable society.
