The General Directorate of Police - The first international conference on community policing was concluded with the participation of various police departments and directorates, the Eupol copps and delegations from Jordan, Ireland and Canada as well as a number of active institutions and partners from the local community. The conference was held under the patronage of the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Dr. Rami Al-Hamdallah.
Police’s Public Relations and Media Department reported I a statement that “the conference discussed the reality of community policing in terms of strategy and implementation in Palestine.
The conference was opened by Deputy general director of Police Brigadier G. Jihad Al-Msaimi, who conveyed to the participants the greetings of General Hazem Attallah, the Chief of P.C.P, as he stressed on the importance of the outputs of this conference, which will be adopted by the Palestinian police in order to achieve the general goals to build an integrated system of community police, while the spokesmen of the Eupol Copps talks on many aspects in their opening words.
On his part, Matthew Paulen from the British support team who funded the conference said that the community policingexpress the will of the police to get closer to society in light of the challenges of security and safety, through effective interaction with the community.
The conference resulted in several recommendations based on the working papers and discussions presented at the conference. The most important result of the conference was to launch the concept of community police, drawing lessons learned from the international community about partnership, identifying the risks that need to be studied and the opportunities that can be utilized, in addition to build partnerships with the community and permanent guidance on this framework within the police institution.
The conference was organized by the Public relations and media department in the P.C.P, with the support of the European Police and the Preparatory Committee from the Palestinian Police.
